Program Sessions

1. Reflection and Quiet Time
a session at the start of each day to inspire participants and reflect on issues relevant to the conference themes. The usual format involves a short presentation, followed by a period of silence to reflect on the theme(s) discussed. There is also an opportunity for sharing any new insights.

2. Plenary Sessions
A talk show plenary sessions will have a theme for each day. Each session will involve a panel of speakers expressing their perspectives and life experiences.

3. Family Group

Time each day is spent in small groups of around 10 people, where each individual is invited to share his/her life story. It is an opportunity to deepen relationships and build mutual trust amongst participants.

4. Focus Group Discussion

In focus group discussion, participants will discuss and priorities issues of concern from 3 sessions before for renewed and fresh youth concern drawing together the common threads of the conceptual framework expressed in the workshop, City Tour, Live-In Program, social action, and working group discussion.

Participants will meet in sub-regional groups that may be further sub-divided base on geographical location and context, and also base on topic from organizing committee: Youth and Peace; Youth and MDG’s Challenge; Youth as Agent of Change.

The result of focus group discussion will be important for the formulation of the Strategic, Action after program, and Declaration of International Youth Forum.

5. Cultural Night
Each country represented at the conference will be offered an opportunity to share their history, culture and customs. The intention is to build greater understanding of the diversity of this region, and respect for each others traditions and history.

6. Workshop

Workshop will give us time to reflect for issue that we receive in session, and deliberate on selected issues and concern within divers realties of our region, social relevance, responsiveness, and institutional viability. They will be the impetus for all as good global citizen to move forward in fresh ways towards engagements that will transform communities for sustainability and abundant life. Participants will able to choose to participate in two workshop of their choice.

Many of facilitator will be colleague and friends who are delegates themselves with practical experience in related topics to bring forth ideas for our vision of our future work.

7. International Youth Day Exhibition

This exhibition will be the further opportunity for sharing and learning together how NGO and Youth Organization have been doing their mission, and contributing towards social transformation.

The exhibition will also serve as resource/ information points of best practices and models that may be replicated. Participants are encourage to reflect on, and learn from these case stories of actions, exchange information and concerns, as well as to explore possibilities for similar actions.

This session will be held on June 27, 2008

9. Live-in Program and Action Projects Program

Live with community 1 (one) night in addressing social issues, youth, the environment, religion, education, etc. will show us the social challenge for youth. The exposure have been carefully selected to bring us closer to the people, their lives, their struggle; to the earth and nature to” hear” their groans amidst the pain and destruction inflicted on them; and to experience the beauty and joy of God’s creation and hope for the future.

This program is an opportunity for people to people dialogue. It can be learning platform into inner issues, the hidden issues impacting the community. In other words, this exposure may taken as an effort to see what has laid open… hence community exposure can be taken to be an effort to see the realities as they are openly laid open for participants to see and experience.

By experiencing live with community 1 (one) night we hope create further interaction, or exchange stories can change attitudes and mindset not only of us, the “guest”, but also the “host” in community.

In September 2000, the United Nations held a ground-baking event. Together in New York, the presidents, prime ministers and royalty of the world’s 191 countries, pledged to achieve significant progress around eight major propriety areas by the year 2015. These „Millennium Development Goals” tackle many of the world’s most pressing challenges, and provide an ambitious framework through which many countries are now approaching development.

The Millennium Goals(MDGs) are to:

• Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
• Improve maternal health
• Achieve universal primary education
• Combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other issues
• Promote gender equality and empower women
• Ensure environmental sustainability
• Reduce child morality
• Develop a global partnership for development

Youth have too often been seen as a burden rather than an asset, a group to be taught but not to teach, and to receive not to give. Young people are in fact an ever-growing demographic force: half of the world’s populations under 25 who are disproportionately affected by major global issues. Young people must be actively involved in the effort to continually monitor and measure work towards attainment of the MDGs

A Fund Rising Plan for You

As we have said the only sure way of getting to Bandung is if you raise the money yourselves. Try to make a plan of how to raise effective and in time this money!

1. Make Your Plan. Make a Contact chart or web. First list all the people you, your parents, extended family, friends, schoolteachers and others know who could help you. Put them at the heart of the web. Talk to them and ask them who they know – people in businesses, government, service groups, religious leaders. Remember: people generally give money to people not causes so a personal approach is far more likely to be successful than a letter to someone you have never met. Use the chart to list all the people you have approached along with the date you sent the letter, made the call, had the meeting and the day they replied, or the date when they said to call back. The following is a list of some areas you should explore:

2. Your National Airline. Contact your national airline. Ask to speak to the Head of Public Relations or Corporate Affairs. Show them the letter from the Forum organisers and explain that if they help you, they will get a credit at the Forum. See which is the nearest place they can fly you to through their network. (Many National Airlines do not fly to Jakarta – however if they fly to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or any Southeast Asia Capital, that’s a great start). If they are not prepared to give you a ticket, ask for the biggest discount they can give you.

3. Your Family. the closest source of money. Involve grandparents, uncles, cousins in your chart and your plan.

4. Local Corporations. Many corporations have community funds to support young people. Talk to the Head of Community/Corporate Affairs and explain what you are doing.

5. Embassies and UN Agencies. In developing countries, many embassies and UN agencies have discretionary funds that they can spend on your participation in events like these. The Ford foundation is also worth approaching.

6. Government Ministries. Try to approach the Ministry of Environment/ Youth Ministry or see if there are any Government scholarship programmes. All Governments were sent letters inviting them to support this event.

7. Individual wealthy people. If you or your family don’t know any – see if you can do some research and find out which people support local charity events. Look at concert programmes, or other charitable events and see who are the local donors. Find out what their interests are, what they support, where they are from and write a careful, enthusiastic letter saying what you want to do.

8. Churches, mosques, synagogues, temples: Talk to them and see if they can get involved in some way. Sometimes they will let you make an appeal to the community.

9. School, college, scout troops. See if they can help. Arrange a car wash, bake sale, sponsored walk or bike ride. Arrange a party or event and charge people. Ask for support from local discos at the university, college professors, holds a university rally. Be inventive!

10. The public campaign: See if you can get to your local newspaper and ask them to do an article about yourself in the local newspaper. This will help, because if you are doing a sponsored walk or whatever, it will get more publicity for you and more people might sponsor you.

11. Working Together. In many cases, you will not be the only participant from your country. Find out who the others are and work together. You will have more success and be able to reach more people. (To find out who else is coming from your country, check out the delegates profiles.)

How are you going to promote yourself?

You should work out a really good letter. Don’t be too stiff and formal – make it really personal, so that people get a sense of who you are, what you have done, what your interests are and why you feel it is important to attend this Forum. Ask a friend to look through the letter and give their honest opinion. Be prepared to write many letters!

Think about your presentation: If someone wants to meet with you to discuss this, plan what you are going to say and how you will come across. Draw on your past achievements – put together a folder of photographs of what you have done.

Fund Raising can be hard and depressing. It’s hard being rejected – but don’t give up!

Indonesia Visa Information

We are naturally informing the Indonesia Consulates in all your countries about the Forum event but there are certain things that you can do to ease the acceptance of your visa application:
• Plan ahead: get your visa application form along with your letter of invitation in as early as possible. In some cases it can take up to 6 weeks to get a Visa interview.
• Assemble the evidence: you have to prove to the consular officer why you will definitely be returning to your country. You should write down all the reasons for example job/university; family ties, bank account etc and have documents to back up your evidence e.g. letters from your employer, bank statements.
• Raise the fee: A Indonesia Entry visa will cost you about US$ 45 in your local currency equivalent.
• Provide a Passport size photographs of yourself.
• Complete the application form:General requirements for Visit Visa.
- Passport must be valid at least 6 months at the date of entry into Indonesia.

- For the Multiple Entries, the passport must be valid at least 1 year.
- Passport contains at least one blank visa page. Amendment and endorsement pages

There are nationals of 11 countries who are entitled to visit Indonesia without a visa. On the other hand, there are nationals of 19 countries who will need an approval from Immigration Authorities in Indonesia, for any type of visa, before entering Indonesia. Information on the said countries and entry requirements can be seen at either the Visa free short-visit or Various visas issued on Approval. For Journalist visas, applicants will have to contact and apply through the Information Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

General visa enquiries may also be obtained either in person at the Visa Section (Indonesian Consulate General, Al Hudaiba Community 322 Villa No. 1) or by post to PO Box 73759 - Dubai (please enclose a Self Address Envelope and contact number).

Visa Procedures

1. Applicants must hold a full passport which must be submitted upon request for

inspection when applying for a visa.
2. Passport must be valid for at least 6 (six) months from date of entry into Indonesia.
3. Non-passport documents (such as Travel Documents, Certificate of Identity,

Certificate of Registration etc.) will not be accepted.
4. Applicants should fill in the correct visa forms according to the purpose of their visit,

as once a visa is issued (stamped in the applicant passport), it cannot be cancelled

or transferred to another type of visa under any circumstances.
5. Please write clearly in capital letters. Illegibility may prevent your application from

being processed.
6. All questions must be answered, and all documents in support of an application

submitted. Failure to do so may result in delay.
7. Application forms must be original and personally signed by the applicant. Forms

down loaded from the Consulate website must be printed double-sided as only a

double-sided completed application is accepted.
8. One recent passport-sized color photograph of the applicant must be submitted with

the application.
9. All applications are subject to approval. Submission of a visa application does not

necessarily mean that a visa will be granted.
10.Applicants whose applications need referral to the Authorities in Indonesia should

NOT purchase their travel tickets (plane, boat or otherwise) before the approval for

their visa application is received.
11.All visa applications must be submitted between 10.00am and 1.00pm, Saturday to

Wednesday (except on Indonesian and UAE public holidays) through the Visa Section

of the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai.
12.If granted, visa can be collected within two to three working days, between 10.00

am and 01.00pm.
13.The granting of a visa is, in effect, only a form of pre-entry clearance. It does not

grant permission to enter Indonesia. The Indonesian Immigration authorities at the

port of entry reserve the right to refuse entry into Indonesia.
14.All applicants must reside in United Arab Emirates.
15.All visa regulations are strictly adhered to for the good of each and every individual

who wishes to visit Indonesia, in order to prevent any problems and complications

with regard to their entry into Indonesia.
16.Due to the fact that Indonesia and Israel do not, at present, share diplomatic

relations, nationals and passport holders of Israel are unfortunately unable to enter

the Republic of Indonesia as a tourist or otherwise without special authorization

from the Immigration Office. Therefore, all such applications have to be sent to the

Immigration Office in Indonesia.
17.All visitors, regardless of their nationality, who wish to travel to Aceh and Irian Jaya

must obtain a special permit from the Indonesian Immigration Office, and also the

State Police Department in the Capital city of Jakarta before entering these areas.
18.It is most desirous that any traveler to Indonesia understands and duly respects the

Indonesian Immigration regulations as well as the Consulate rules.

Visa free short visit for tourists
(As from 1st February 2004)

In conjunction with the Presidential Decision No. 103/2003, signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on 17th December 2003 regarding the new visa policy, from the 1st February 2004, the following countries do not require a visa to enter Indonesia for a Tourist visit of up to 30 (thirty) days:

Indonesia, which length of stay may not exceed 30 (thirty) days and cannot be

extended / transfer, or apply at the Indonesian Embassy to stay longer than thirty

days.
3. Visa issued at the Embassy has a maximum length of stay is 60 (sixty) days, and

cannot be extended / transfer.
4. Tourist visa application from certain nationals would need to be referred to the

Immigration Office in Indonesia (see various visas issued on Approval). This process

can take up to two months before a decision is made and the visa is granted.
5. Type of entry : Single Entry only.
6. To return the passport by post, a Self-Addressed Special Delivery Envelope should be

provided.
7. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application.

Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :
· Passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia)

with blank pages to affix the visa sticker
· One completed visa application form
· One coloured passport size photograph

student, submit confirmation letter of attendance from school, college or university.

the visit to Indonesia

· Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application provided all

Jakarta Arrivals
If you did not obtain a visa before coming to Indonesia, keep an eye out for the visa counters, which are located near the arrival gates. Visitors from 36 nations, which includes the U.S., EU and GCC countries, can get a visa on arrival. The visa needs to be purchased before going through immigration. You do not need to complete any forms or submit photographs to apply for the visa on arrival. The costs are US$10 for a 7-day stay and $25 for a 30-day visa. Do not get in line at immigration until you have your visa.
At the immigration counter, submit your passport with visa and the completed immigration form. Immigration will return the passport with the departure segment of the immigration form inside. Be sure to keep the departure card with your passport, since you will need to submit it when you leave.
Once you've passed through immigration, you can collect your bags and proceed through customs. Give your completed customs form to the customs officer, and you'll be asked to pass your carry-on bags through the scanners.

International Youth Forum 2008 is a forum for youths to learn, share and experience mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among world youth faiths leader communities through real conversations on what things that matter the most, so that they can be the agents of a peaceful change in their own communities. The IYF 2008 will bring about 300 young people ages of 18-30 from around the world that have been actively engaged or interested in this program.

Program's Goal:

· To promote mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among interfaith, international, and inter-civilization youth leaders in the world.

· To bring clarity of divisive issues and help forge greater understanding towards peace.

· To build a peace network

· To provide creative space for peace thoughts, interactions, and social movement.

· To build a Global Youth Action Plan and recommendation on achieving MDGs 2015

Program Format:

This program will offer a mixing speakers to share their own experiences of peace-building toward MDGs and youth empowerment issue, country paper sessions, inner reflection and sharing in which individuals can share their peace-building stories, panel-discussions, quiet time, world cafe, dialogue, field practice, social workshops involving the local communities, free time, workshop on practical exercises for skill improvement, cultural event, and family groups.

Meeting with Mr.HS.Dillon and Mr.Sudjana Royat

Yesterday and today, IYF 2008's organizing team (Apep, Arif and Wazeen) has been meeting with some prominent persons in Indonesia, they're Mr.HS.Dillon (former Executive Director of Partnership) and Mr.Sudjana Royat (The 7th Deputy of Welfare Ministry in Indonesia).

They're very enthusiastic to hear from us about the upcoming IYF in 2008, they said that youth should have more commitments and make this kind of program as priority, because the role of youth is very significant for every country's future. And also Mr.Sudjana Royat from the Ministry of Welfare Affair said one interesting thing, that this kind of forum should involve more youth, and not to make this kind of forum only for the ceremonial things, moreover he also said that the most important thing from this forum is the result of it, beside of that he raised an idea to create a kind of MDGs' village after the program as well, and he also said that the Ministry of Welfare Affair will commit to support this program. You'll received a notification e-mail from organizer if your application form approved.

3. Payment details:

Participant fee is USD$350 per person (excluding money transfer fee). All payment should be made by bank transfer once we already accepted you as a participant. Please make your payment in US Dollar.

The participant fee is split into to halves:

· First part, of 50 USD, needs to be paid before May 15, 2008 through regular bank transfer. It will be your booking fee.

· Second part, of 300 USD will be paid on your arrival.

Confirmation of Payment:

A copy of the banking operation shall be sent to the forum secretariat via fax or email. This is to prevent unnecessary focusing problems. We will deliver a receipt as soon as we receive the participation fee payment.

Important:

1. Please be informed that you should pay the first halve of participation fee before May 15^th, 2008, otherwise we may cancel your participation.

Where will the IYF 2008 be held?
IYF 2008 will be held at Bandung City in West Java, Indonesia. Bandung is well known as Paris van Java, because it's beautiful landscape and scenery, also known by the city of creative youth, has a great history and where Asia - Africa nations first held their first conference on 1955. You will enjoy the romantic green atmosphere of the city.

Who can participate to International Youth Forum 2008?
Every student, young people or NGO member can participate to IYF2008, with the condition of having age between 18 - 30 years old.

Do you provide scholarship?

We do not have available funding to provide participants with full scholarships. The available funding to provide a limited scholarship in reducing your forum fee. Therefore we encourage you to seek funding from outside sources both in your local and international communities. Please keep updated with this blog.

What does the participation fee includes?
The one-time participant fee covers administration, workshop kit, 8 nights accommodation, meals, local transportation, field trips, organized activities, a friendly airport greeting, an International Youth Forum 2008 diploma and opening & closing ceremonies gala evening.

Does the fee include insurance?
No it does not. We recommend you buying insurance at your countries.

How I will be accommodated?
You'll be accommodated randomly; we're trying to mix the nationalities. However, of course we are open for your suggestions, in case you'd like to be with somebody specific in the room. Either way, once you're accommodated it is possible to change the room, just notify us about it.

Is it necessary to participate in all events during IYF2008?
Yes, it is!

Do I receive an evidence of my participation to IYF2008?
Every participant is going to receive a participation diploma.

About Program Sessions

1. Reflection and Quiet Time
A session at the start of each day to inspire participants and reflect on issues relevant to the conference themes. The usual format involves a short presentation, followed by a period of silence to reflect on the theme(s) discussed. There is also an opportunity for sharing any new insights.

2. Talk Show Plenary Sessions
A talk show plenary sessions will have a theme for each day. Each session will involve a panel of speakers expressing their perspectives and life experiences.

3. Skill Workshops
A practical expression of creativity in various mediums - music, dance, drama and art. Participants will share the outcomes of their workshops at the end of the forum.

4. Family Group
Time each day is spent in small groups of around 10 people, where each individual is invited to share his/her life story. It is an opportunity to deepen relationships and build mutual trust amongst participants.

5. The World Café
Whether in small groups or in complex systems, it is through human conversation that we discover shared meaning, access collective intelligence, and evolve the future together. The World Cafe as a metaphor is a guiding image for this core process.

6. Open Space
It is a way to convene people for a conference, retreat or meeting. "Technology" in this case means 'tool' - a process; a method. Its essential core is the invitation to take responsibility for what you love. The remarkable outcome of this simple idea is that when participants do so, the needs of both the individual and the collective are met.

7. Action Project with Local Community
There will be a special time of a whole day for all participants to visit the Local communities in West Java area and working together doing social work.

8. Cultural Night
Each country represented at the conference will be offered an opportunity to share their history, culture and customs. The intention is to build greater understanding of the diversity of this region, and respect for each others traditions and history

The Organizing Team

Abdullah Alwazin currently is a volunteer in IofC Indonesia, and also a part timer English teacher in some colleges and institutions. He graduated from a nine months leadership program in India, Asia and beyond called Action for Life 3. His interests are in drama and environmental issues. In this international youth forum, Wazeen will be acting as program manager.

Ahmad Fikri Arief is involved with various charities program and NGO. Arief has an extensive experience within the voluntary sector as an activist, campaigner and fundraiser for youth and peace issues both national and international. The role he plays within the International Youth Forum is very rewarding and offers a great learning opportunity. In his spare time he enjoys sightseeing, and also enjoys socializing with friends.

A. Hairul Umam is a dynamic trainer, lecturer and researcher at state Islamic university Jakarta . Currently, he is a manager program of Initiatives of change Indonesia . It is international world wide movement of people come from different faiths, cultures, religions, ages, countries who believe that change start from individual . He is one of the first selected participants from Indonesia who joined in action for life, a nine month leadership training based in India , South East Asia, Europe and Africa . He has been involving in various organizations of youths, multi faith dialogue, and event organizers either nationally or internationally for many years.

Ahmad Zahir is one of the commissioners in the council of Management Students Association at UPI, and he is a leader in the Junior Youth Muhammadiyah Association in West Java. He is also a productive activist for education and social development in West Java. He was chosen as an Indonesian delegate for the Asian Youth Forum 2006 and serves as one of the people who inform the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) for their missions in Indonesia especially in West Java. He is active in many national and international activities.

Binsar Pakpahan is a PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, faculty of theology. This young vicar based his dissertation on a project of remembrance as a basis of forgiveness and reconciliation, actively engaged in hosting anti-corruption learning network, percussion and leadership workshops, and deeply concerned in inter-faith dialogue. Binsar is very much involved in youth projects both national and international level, theological and social issues, as speakers, resource person, and organizers, and since the 12th Asia Pacific Youth Conference is happy to join IofC Indonesia family and serve as public relation for International Youth Forum.

A. Fajar Kurniawan currently is manager for center of religious and civilization studies. Formers of Board Muhammadiyah Junior Youth Association, director of Center for Japan Studies, Chairman of Indonesia Youth Congress, etc. He has an extensive experience on youth issues both national and international. He is one of Indonesia Youth that become member of International Youth Forum in Bucharest and Paris.

Favor Adelaide Bancin is a vicar at Gereja Kristen Protestan Pakpak Dairi (Pakpak Dairi Protestant Christian Church), and also works as volunteer in some youth Christian organizations, such as member of Youth Commission at Communion of Churches in Indonesia (CCI) in Jakarta, member of YMCA Metro Jakarta. He is also involved in Interfaith Dialogue Seminars and Interfaith Camps, and as speaker in youth interfaith dialogue seminars, such as in APAY (Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCA) 1st Youth Assembly August 2006 in Kuala Lumpur. He realized that the current issue is a part of his daily life and become fully committed to it.

Husnul Khitam studied at Islam traditional school that becomes an activist and dialogue builder on local wisdom and identity oriented development. He is planning to take his masters degree on rural sociology. This energetic young man is active in some youth organizations such as Moslem Students Association, Indonesian Farmer Association, and joined IofC Indonesia because he wanted to see a peaceful inter-cultural dialogue and build cooperation and mutual understanding among fellow human. Husnul will be acting as main coordinator of the program.

Lusiana Rumintang serves as treasurer in IYF 2008. Lusiana is a good, fun, and loving person who develops a great passion for world culture (economic system, film, ethnical music, and folklore), children development, as we ll on space and astronomy. Currently she is working as a children self-help book scriptwriter and popular management literature editor. Moreover, she is also building a discussion groups for street youths on Eastern Jakarta. Being involved with IofC Indonesia, Lusiana is now very much interested in enhancing the potential of Indonesian youngsters to have depth understanding on global issues.

Mubasyir Ahmad Anwar is a dynamic and creative youth. He graduated at Bina Nusantara University. He is currently the information system manager of some projects in Indonesia. He is one of youth businessman. He has been involved in various youth activities.

Rosi Siti Rachmawati is a leader Gender Department Development, and as Board of Muhammadiyah Junior Youth Association. She is one of participant connecting future of British Council. She has involved in various gender issues.

Dinnur Garista is a student leader in the Islamic State University of Jakarta. He is active in Green Community Jakarta a non profit organization that focus on campaining the green lifestlye to students in schools and universities in Indonesia. In IYF 2008, he is part of fundrising program team.

Jessica Piesesha is a senior student of International Affairs department in University of Pelita Harapan, Cikarang, West Java. She love to have social activities in her spare time. In 2007, she become the organizing team of ASEAN Peace Camp called Bridge of Youth in Bali. In IYF 2008, she is active on fundrising program.

Kasfiyullah or Kezep is a creative designer. He is a fresh graduate in philosophy departement of University of Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta. Currently working as a freelancer in some advertising agencies in Jakarta, and with his creative work will make the IYF 2008 atmosphere more attractive.

Banda Arya is a young activist who are have a passionate on international affairs. Currently study at International Affairs department of Al-Azhar Indonesia University in Jakarta. He is actively involve with many social activities. In IYF 2008 team, he is part of public relation team.

Aidul Fitri or Pipit serves as public relation team in IYF 2008. He is currently a student on philosophy department of State Islamic University in Jakarta. His work more on leadership training for youth and student in some schools in Jakarta and Bandung area. Youth action on achieving MDGs is his main work focused. With his extensive and broad network within youth movement and activist in Indonesia will support much IYF team work.

M. Faliq is a young social activist currently serves as Muhammadiyah Junior Youth Association leader in West Java province. Spare of his time as a student of University of Padjajaran in Bandung, he actively involve with many NGO's on youth, environment, social, and healthcare as a volunteer. Faliq is a good and fun person who acting as member of IYF 2008 accomodation team.

Davie is a student leader in Indonesia University of Education in Bandung. His interest are in economic and management espescially on small-medium enterprises and cooperation. With his group, he support and trained some local farmer communities with entrepreneurship skills. In IYF 2008 he serves as program team.

Initiatives of Changes (IofC) is a global network committed to building trust in the whole world. This organization is supported by people with various cultural, national, and religious backgrounds. They have the same goal of making changes in society through individual knowledge and relationships.
